I can't be the only one wondering why the 5D3 is £800 more in the UK than it is in the USA

£2999 compared to $3500 which converts to less than £2200

At the risk of oversimplifying a more satisfactory response, you must realize not all markets are created equal. Per capita income and wage compression varies across regions and...

Ah, to hell with it, just take Economics 101.

Check out my feedback here.

Macro should do the trick.

No your not the only one, it's another classic case of us Brits being ripped off.

It's all relative. Maybe you're not getting ripped off. Maybe the US is getting a treat? You could fly to the US and buy one, but if I was you my time would be worth more than the difference in price.

I did take Maths at an advanced level. The cost of selling the same imported goods manufactured from a common base is not £800 ($1,250) more. Even allowing for state taxes, different import duties and the differential in operating costs on both a traditional and Internet sales function ..... £800 more .... Think I'll wait for the discounting to start or take my darling wife for a weekend in NYC

I've never been to the states before and this is now looking like a option.
What a great excuse for a holiday, looking at flights at the moment

Pauly ... Just remember to factor in the VAT you will be charged when you import the camera and that the sale in the USA needs to be tax free for export

Well this put a dampener on things, I was expecting £2500 max

I can get a new 1D Mark IV for for just under £3000 after VAT.. where I live,

I'd actually be paying around £2400 after VAT was taken off the 5D.. I was hoping under £2000

im not 100% sure but....

The Uk price includes VAT (20%). In the US they have a state tax which is not included in that cost but will be once its bought.

That said, Im pretty sure state tax is much lower than Vat.

Put the camera and accessories in your hand luggage, flatten the box and put it in your hold luggage. Job done.

Unless you like giving the government money for absolutely no reason...

Personally, I think it's a case of "lets see how many mugs buy at this price before we have to drop it"

I know one person who'll buy it straight away, and he'll be the first in all of glorious wiltshire to do so. He did it with the 5Dc AND the 5D2. If he does it again, the mayor hands him his £3k gadget and gives him the keys to the county.

I'm used to it. I just buy all my gear when I make regular trips back to the States. Turns out that American passport has a benefit after all. :P

Just a quick question about bringing a camera back from the US, what happens if something goes wrong with it??

I'm off with the wife to New York in about 3 weeks time, and am thinking of picking up a 7d whilst there.

Daft why we are paying more. What is the price of a cheap flight to New York these days?
