I have a 20D and have used it happily for years now. I cut my teeth, however, on a Nikon F2. What I miss about that camera was the viewfinder, which allowed easy manual focusing by presenting a line in the viewfinder that matched up when the subject was in focus.

Perhaps because of the deficiencies of the 20D auto-focusing system, I often times find myself wanting to manually focus using my 50mm USM f/1.4 lens, esp with low-contrast subjects when the auto focus starts hunting. I have a hard time manually focusing though because of the lack of "help" in the viewfinder.

Does Canon make custom viewfinders? What am I to do? Does the 5D mark ii focus better? Must I get a new camera? A 7D? I am thinking that my next upgrade should be to full-frame, but I've heard Nikon's autofocus is much better than Canon. I have about $500 worth of equipment invested in Canon, so I don't really want to switch to Nikon. Advice?

There are a couple a third party focus screen manufacturers that make a split image focusing screen for the 20d

Does anyone have any experience with these products? How much did it cost to install? I wouldn't want to install it myself, or is it really easy?

I've read a bit about the 7D. It appears you can set it to have a grid on the viewfinder. Is it possible to set it so that you have the split screen focusing?
