When I was younger my dad use to make me save popsicle sticks all Summer long.
In the Winter he and I would sit in the basement and paint the tops of the sticks bright orange.
We would let the sticks dry by hanging them off the edge of his workbench.

Spring would come along and he would tell me it was time to plant popsicle sticks.
We would go out and locate bird nests along side the road and place a popsicle stick in the ground by the road.
We could then relocate the nest in the Summer when the nests were hard to see in the vegetation.

I just got back from a trip down one of the roads my dad and I use to travel and located a couple nests.
I didn't have any popsicle sticks with me, but I may start carrying them again. :)

Two nests from today.

Feel free to add more nest images to this thread, I am sure there are many varieties!

That's a neat idea, and a neat story, that sounded like something out of Reader's Digest... :)
That's a smart idea your father had.

What a wonderful memory - thank you for sharing and for giving me an idea of something that I can do with my son.

Now Shawn, you should stand up right now and take a bow because of the post I've quoted here. What a gift you have just given to another Father and Son. Bravo!

No bow needed, the hero of this story is Keebert taking the initiative to do something with his son!
Kids remember what their parents teach them long after the parent has passed away!
