I know this comparison is being made in a lot of the posts on the new 5D Mk III but for those of use who really do own both of these current bodies I'm wondering if you are consider trading up. I look at the Mk III as almost the perfect combinations of these two even though it would probably set you back more than the two separate bodies? Carrying arround both to take advantage of the strength of each is a lot of weight especially if you have them both gripped and with L- brackets.

Of course if you op for the single body you lose the 1.6x and reach you get with the 7D with telephoto zooms and the 8fps but 6 fps would work for me.

I had heard you could use your BG-E6 grip on the Mk IIII but can't confirm this. If so great, if not that does add to the package price of a new system.

Let me know your thoughts.

Ill say what I said in a similar thread earlier:

Its doubtful you'd be anywhere near an even trade after selling both your bodies, especially once the market becomes flooded with everyone doing just this.

For me, the 5D3 just isnt a compelling enough upgrade to justify giving up both my 5DII and 7D. Sure, Id love to ADD one if I could afford it - but its not a game changer that justifies significantly reduced flexibility in my kit. If I were shelling out $$$ of this magnitude it would be for the 24-70II, not for this new camera body.

To add to this, Im relying on having both sensor formats to fill holes in my lens line up so the cost of going 100% full frame would be more than just the difference between the sale of my 5DII/7D and the 5DIII - Id also have to fill the holes in my lens lineup.

For me on FF I really don't have any wholes in my lineup but I've really been wanting to eliminate some redundant glass. Thinking of combining my 24-70L, 24-105L, and 35L into the 24-70L II. Will keep the 24L II, 50L, and 85L II though.

I have both bodies. I use both bodies. The announcement of a new camera changes absolutely nothing about how those two work. I will be keeping what I have until something is released that is enough of an upgrade to be worth the money or until my current bodies give up the ghost.

The more I think about this 5DIII, the more I realized it missed the mark for me.

I'm seriously considering getting a used 7D to replace my T1i as my backup and for sports/wildlife etc... In many of these cases I'd want a crop for the reach anyway. If I could have gotten decent AF in a FF at a reasonable price, I would have gone that route, but the 7D as a second camera is looking like a better and better deal.

To me 2 cameras that are good at what they do is better than one very expensive in-between.

I think if anything the new 5d3 will make the 7D a better buy and put an awesome camera in alot of peoples hands that always wanted one same goes with the 5D2 alot of people couldn't afford it and later this year when prices drop anyone who longed for FF will finally get it and save money enough to get the 580ex2 for a steal as all the gearheads sell there setups to get the new ONE..

How the tides on this board change, from 5D II vs 7D threads, to 5D III vs 5D II + 7D ;) Honestly for the price of the 5D III, Id rather pick up myself another 5D II and some lenses.

Without getting into the 5DIII debate, I'd rather own a FF and crop. When I walk out the door with both bodies plus a 35mm and 85mm, I've got most typical situations handled with two nice primes. If I need reach @400, I grab the crop. If I'm shooting landscape or still people, I grab the FF. Much more versitility.

This is my setup today. Would not trade both for a better FF or better crop.

If anyone wants a 7D in the near future, I'll have one for sale. Just shoot me a PM.

IMO, its always better to have two cameras versus one. The IQ of the 7D won't be up to the 5D2 or 5D3 level, but the 1.6 crop is extremely useful for sports and action photography.

I'm a photojournalist and I still need 2 cameras going all the time. The 5D III is the perfect combo, but then you only have one, $3500 camera... Boooo.

I need to shoot with 2 bodies most of the time. I tried a 5DII + 7D. Didn't work out for me so replaced the 7D with another 5DII. Having to upgrade to 2 5DIII's sounds a little daunting, as far as incremental cost, to me. Actually it's not that bad, when I really think about it. Maybe I'll replace my 5DII's with 5DIII's but only if there is a noticeable high ISO improvement since I generally am shooting in low light when shooting with 2 bodies.

I don't need the 1.6 "reach" for my shooting.

I'm not kidding myself. The 5Dmk3 is what I would lIke to have. Looks like the perfect FF camera for me, but at 3500$ I can get a 5Dmk2 with a 70-200 f4 IS and extra 600$ for an extra lens or lighting gear.
