One Trip, Two Lifers

Thanks to Pauhana, I took a ride along the Courtney Campbell Causeway (between Tampa and Clearwater) and spotted the Long-tail Ducks he had reported. In addition, there were some Horned Grebes, another lifer for me. I saw numerous other species, including a Greater Scaup which I was thinking was a first. However, I later remembered one that I had originally mis-identified as something else. Anyway, it was a fun afternoon and good to get out for a change.

Appreciate your comments, Sharon. Either I haven't been in the right places or these guys are not usually here, either. I suppose that's why we keep looking, you never know what will show up.

Thanks, Mike. The only grebes I normally see are the pied bill variety, it's good to see others.

Congrats on a "twofer" in one day Stan... those Long-tail Ducks show up in the Big Lake each spring and fall, but they "bob" around so far out I can never get a shot of one... the only grebes I have seen around here are the Rednecked and Pied-billed... great finds.

That's a great story Stan and congrats on 2 new lifers! I know the feeling.
Isn't it great to be able to follow up on the information shared here and come away with some very nice captures of birds such as these. The Horned Grebe is one I know I've not seen but maybe once or twice. Great shooting!

Congrats, Stan! Long-taileds aren't usually around here, either, but I happened to catch my first in an errant female along the Oregon coast a couple of years ago. I'd still love to catch a male at some point.
