Hi! For the CD's for my clients I'm wanting to burn one folder with the high-res images & another folder with the low-res internet viewing images.

Is there a program I need, a specific type of DVD & what program would you recommend?

Thanks!

prior to Windows 7, it is necessary to get a application program to burn DVDs, as there are no native capabilities for burning DVD in the o/s.

As of Windows 7, the o/s has native burning capabilities for DVD

I dont remember installing anything special... but I have Vista and it is just a drag and drop operation for me. That said there may be something installed from the manufacturer. But I didnt install it.

Oh, Vista, the O/S that few upgraded to, and you used it only if you were unfortunate to buy a PC pre-loaded with it!

Actually, this has been the case since XP.

It has worked 100% for me. Not even a hiccup. Could never see why people repeat what the read in magazines and think is gospel.

Windows XP originally did not have DVD burning capability, as this interchange on a forum, with a reply by a Microsoft employee in 2007 proves:

Yes, you're right about DVDs, no but CDs are what the OP asked about. From MSlop's knowledge base.

Yup. I guess neither of us is really paying attention. Read the first sentence...

,,,For the CD's for my clients I'm wanting to burn one folder with the high-res images & another folder with the low-res internet viewing images....

As far as I an remember, CD burning without additional software was in XP at FCS, and DVDS weren't in common use at the time (on computers).

I paid attention to the first sentence, but considered the second sentence about DVD to override what had been stated about CD. And yes, Windows XP had CD burning in the O/S, but not DVD burning without a supplementary application program (like Nero) being installed. Since CD burning was included, but DVD burning was not included in XP, I stressed the inapplicable task in my reply...'DVD' also is in the name of the Topic.

Guys, in case you missed it, the OP is using OSX…

Select the folders, then go File > "Burn 2 Items to Disk..."
Alternatively, for OSX, there's "Burn". Should also do what you want: http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html (external link)

For those with access to Linux, while there are a dozen or more burner programs in the Repositories, K3b easily beats the rest. It creates Data CDs or DVDs, and you can easily encrypt data before burning, if the disks have to be sent somewhere, or left 'accessible' anywhere.

K3b makes excellent TV-player compatible DVDs - and if those are required to run on Windows PCs, the Windows compatibility is selectable.

Non MPEG2 videos will run from either CD or DVD on PCs, or TV-players with codec compatibility. H264 is supposedly best quality, but converting to H264 is heavy work. Xvid4 in 2-Pass mode and good bitrate is as good for TV - with Players that can play MPEG4 / DivX / Xvid. You can run 5.1 audio, not just stereo, with Xvid, if you use AAC audio and the MP4 container.

H264 is MPEG4-AVC - Advanced Video Codec - and while most newer TV Players can use it, not all, particularly older ones, can. If the Player handles "MPEG4 / DivX" - it will play Xvid4 - which, done properly in 2-Pass mode at 1500kbps+ - 1800 works very well - is as good on TVs.

K3b writes ISOs to disk - including Linux Distro ISOs to LiveCD / DVD bootables.

Also Player playable Slideshows with audio (created with 'Imagination', etc) - to CD / DVD.

And can make any movie / video into a MoviX disk - that is - you can put a movie on a DVD, burn it in K3b as 'MoviX' - and that DVD will itself be bootable in Linux or Windows PCs - set BIOS to boot from CD/DVD, and boot the disk. It has a Micro-Linux system on it, which runs in RAM, boots up to a GUI interface with movie controls, and runs the movie.

Those are automatically Windows-compatible. While K3b defaults to adding Windows compatibility to CDs / DVDs - that can be turned off - deliberately or inadvertently during K3b Prefs setup. It's worth checking if intended recipients use Windows.

Easy to forget - because while all Windows-capable CDs / DVDs run in Linux, those that are Unix/Linux only, don't run in Windows.

Regards, Dave.
