I'm a San Francisco native, and in all the mumblemumble years I have lived here, until this morning I had never visited the Muir Woods National Monument. It's only a 40 minute drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, so I decided to go this morning.

What an incredible place it is. Many of those redwoods are over a thousand years old, and are 300 feet tall. Muir Woods is a quiet place, even though there are a lot of visitors. Something about the place makes people speak in quiet tones.

I hope I captured some of the feel of the place with this image.

Nicely done. I'd try pulling just a little bit of blue out to see if it is better. I know what you mean about not visiting local areas. I was born in SF and raised in Eureka, and only during the last few years have we gone back to play tourist and see some of the things that others go there for.

One more... took this while waiting for the gates to the park to open:

I'll try that, thanks. But the whole area is in blue shadows under that tree canopy. Nonetheless, I'll mess with it.

Very nice shots. I think the second image has the shadows opened up just a bit too much for my taste. You're fortunate to live in an area with so many great places to photograph.

That's the one thing I miss most about living in Stockton. From the gold country and high sierras to the east and all the coastal areas to the west, Stockton was a pretty central location for shooting landscape...oh, and don't forget the delta area too. :D

I really like the feeling of the textures and colors. Will put this on my tilted bucket list. KUDOS.

OK, I did some reprocessing. Removed some blue & cyan and added a little red and yellow.

Thanks for the C&C everyone!

Nicely done Michael. I like them both but the first one seems more interesting to me. The way the trees fade is cool.

Thanks Alfredo. I prefer the first one too (but the second version of the first one).

What a cool place! 1st and 3rd are great! There's something about the processing in the second which doesn't work for me. I bet you could fix it (for my taste anyway) by merging it back into an OE.

Did pretty good. Like the 2nd shot too. Looks maybe like tan oak or bay laurel. I like the way those trunks get moss coated. I wouldn't recommend removing blue from the images much. Even those lichens should have a blue tint to them.

Actually, you should treat yourself to the ones are are bigger and taller near Orick and Crescent City. Muir Woods does not have a redwood over 260 feet tall. Even Oregon's tallest pine, at 268 feet, is taller than every redwood in that park. Up at Avenue of the Giants, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods, the coast redwoods are pushing 300 to 379 feet. Some 20, 25 and 30 feet diameter.

You picked a good season for your first experience there. The moist season is practically the best season for coast redwood photography.
