Squirrels- I don't even know..

I saw the squirrel walk across the street and into a tree, I'm assuming it was carrying it, however, I don't know why...

In the spring mother squirrels will carry their young from place to place. I've seen that this past spring. Also I've heard (not seen) squirrels will canabalize dead squirrels and carry them somewhere to be eaten.
