Need help on posting

I've attached a picture for viewing in the Bird section (Mr. Mockingbird), however it is really small. The problem is that when I get the megapixels down to where they need to be to meet the forum rules (1024 X 1024) I get the message that the Kb exceed the limit, even thought the pixels are within the guidelines. In order to get the Kb to comply I have to really shrink the photo, which ends up not being too good for viewing. I've posted large pictures before and not had this problem. Any ideas why this is happening? I use DPP for my photos.

You should use more compression when saving to jpeg. The maximum value of "12" is usually overkill for web viewing, with values around 7~8 being a good amount. A compressed image can have 4x as many pixels but still be the same size, for example.
If DPP uses a 0-100% slider for setting jpeg quality, give it about 60~70%

Try a max pixel dimension of 800-900 pixels. Then you just move your Qualtiy slider back until you get to the right file size -- how much will depend on the image.

Note that doing this to post on POTN is not looking for award-winning quality, it's just to share with POTNers, so don't fuss about the quality. It's kind of like posting to Facebook as opposed to posting to a "real" image sharing site!

Many people that are concerned with posting a better quality image than is possible within the forum guidelines do so by posting first to a file sharing site (like Flickr) and then "hot-linking" the image here by using the square yellow icon at the top of the reply text box. The file can be any size in KB, but the pixel dimensions should still respect the 1024 limit.
