I will send out the secret phone number list about a month prior to the BBQ ... if I do it sooner there are always several additions and then I have to send new lists and I'm not going to do that anymore. Get your number to me in a PM before hand.

Cali, I will be in Tahoe with the Fosters until the Friday before. And having looked a my calendar I also see that my local Professional Photographers group is having a Print Competition Monday night for anyone who'd like to see what that's all about ... it'll be in Santa Maria and I'd be happy to haul a few folks.

If it makes you feel any better, I wish I had the 5DIII. I love tech and love having the latest & greatest... but it has nothing to do with "showing it off". :o I don't even have a gear list... and I have a respectable spread of gear. I'm fortunate in that regard, and I put a lot of time and effort into deciding what I am going to get and why.

Regardless, it is the photographer who ultimately decides if the image is going to be worth a damn. Once you have enough talent to take a good to spectacular image, the gear kicks in and gives you an edge with better IQ, more pixels to play with and the technical ability to actually pull off the shot. I'm like Dwight in that respect... I prefer to have equipment that is better than my abilities. That way I always know it was I who could have done better. Besides, if you can afford it and it makes you happy, why the hell not have it. :D

Not to point out the obvious, but I don't believe anyone in our group is the "show-off" sort. I don't really think they would fit in, as there isn't really room in our group for superficial 'tards like that. No one in this group (thankfully) cares how big your "anything" is. We have much more important things to discuss like politics, religion, guns, cameras, naked ladies, clothed ladies, tall ladies, short ladies, ladies in general, um, I know there was more, but I seem to have gotten stuck...

I'm not too sure about the politics or religion, but I'm on board for the guns, cameras, naked ladies, clothed ladies, tall ladies, short ladies, ladies in general, dammit now I'm stuck!

Wow, I have to admit I am a bit puzzled by some of the hostilities or negativity that I am reading. When did it become ok to attack someone for what gear they have choosen to purchase or commenting how to improve ones shot without, oh I dont know pointing out the positives as well. You put on smiley faces and think well its ok, I am just giving Killjoy a bad time. I may be biased but I am sorry if I take it personally, when someone I care about is being raked over the coals for what I am just not too sure. I am an outsider looking in and I am really disappointed in some of you. Getting new gear I think is exciting and you want to share it with those you think will appreciate that. I guess I was under the impression this was a place where you can be supported in what ever you do. I am sorry if I think both the gear and the person are equally important, but if you think you can get the same picture with a polaroid than with the newest and greatest well more power to you. I am not normally vocal about things but this has bothered me enought to comment. So no smiley faces or winks or anything else. I think it is time to let this discussion go before someone regrets saying something and not able to take it back!!!

Yay, Sarah!!

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Wow Killjoy, didn't know your that sensitive! LOL

You all crack me up too much. It is all in good fun, if anyone one here takes anything we say to each other serious then we have a serious issue at this years BBQ.

Sarah relax a bit ok, just busting Killjoys balls a bit. Look how ended up using the recommendation I gave him on his photo, you don't think I noticed he changed out the shots? LOL we all bust each others ball in this thread for the past few BBQs it is all fun and games. If someones got a issue then flat out PM that person or tell them out loud, if not then that's that members fault for not standing up.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings Buddy (killjoy).

I think it's real hard to convey what your saying and how your saying it over the internets. I believe when your reading any forum you have to take with a grain of salt. I think when we put the smiley faces, sorry Sarah please don't hate me, it's there to try to show we are kidding or goofing on the person or whatever emotion that is trying to be expressed. Unfortunately that message doesn't always get through. You also don't know what's going on that persons mind, such as envy, jealousy, hatred, maybe even payback for something done to that person in a previous situation or event. I'm not sure, the mind is complex area that is still being explored.

I think this was all done in good fun and it got off the tracks somewhere. in the words of Rodney King,"Can't we all just get along?"

Now let's all kiss and make up, especially the naked ladies. Dammit Duff you got me stuck thinking about naked ladies!

Internet conversation= emotionless! That is why they call them emoticons. Somepeople just don't get it, the internet is not meant for all to be on.

I am going to say one thing on the matter, then be done. I was very uncomfortable reading some of those posts about Alan and it didn't sound like poking fun to me. My feelings would have been very hurt if I was him. I think we get a little too carried away here sometimes and maybe it is fun if you are dishing it out but it is not funny if you are the one feeling lamblasted. Maybe everyone needs to take a step back & think about what they say before they type it.

No, no, no he got the image in my head and I can't stop thinking about it. Kind of like a song that pops in your head and you can't get rid of it. BTW, I've never actually met Duff.

I went back and read this and he did get ganged up on. I guess I was trying to make light of a situation and get past this. I'm with you and Allan, I'm done with it.

I don't know if you remember me or not, but I met you and Skip in Yosemite a couple years ago with Allan.
