I shoot real estate and am looking to add the the TS 17mm. My current set up is the 60D with the Tamron 10-24 and use PSE 8 to do my editing and photomatix. I know or at least have been told that with the 60d, I'm not getting the full use out of my wide angle. If I were to purchase the 17mm TS and took two pics and merged in PSE 8 panoramic, would I be the same size as my current wide angle or would I be wider? I know it would be extra work stitching but at least my lines would be straight or house wouldn't look like its falling over. My goal is to upgrade my camera to full frame but with money issues I can only do one thing at a time. The bad thing is, is I can't buy the camera first since the tamron won't work on full frame cameras.

you should try to get FF first. Replacing the tamron should be easy.

From what I understand is the vignetting I would have if I used a full frame camera along with the Tamron 10-24. Am I right or am I confused?

Mike,
If you are shooting real-estate then you absolutely have a perfect business need to get the 17mm TS-E. If you ever go to a full-frame camera later, you'll want the 24mm TS-E. But, for now your instincts are fine...get the TS-E 17mm.

David,
What is the reason for going from a 17 to a 24 when I get a full frame. When it comes to real estate, isn't wider better?

The Tamron 10-24mm is usable on full frame at 16mm+ (approx). I previously owned the lens and asked someone on Flickr about this when I was considering moving to full frame. Now I'm working with a 5D, but no 10-24mm!

He did send me a package of photos demonstrating this.

10mm:

20mm:

I can't speak for the distortion/slight vignetting, but that's that! As he told me, the photos were taken with a 5D Mark II, pointed towards a piece of paper with a bounced flash for even illumination.

The TS-E can shift about 12 mm in each direction. Let's suppose you orient your 60D with the long side upward, then the left most frame will have and edge at -19.5 and the right most at +19.5. The resulting frame would be about 39x22.5 and have the perspective slightly wider than a 17mm used on a ff camera.

Don't forget that you would have to allow a bit for overlap - so this might take four or five frames.

btw... it is a spectacular lens. I strongly recommend a Zacuto Z-finder loupe for your lcd so that you can do some accurate focusing.

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

I personally have long thought that 74 degree Angle of View is too narrow to do architectural interiors well...17mm on APS-C or 28mm on FF is 74 degree angle of view.

24mm on FF is great for architectural interiors, but that would be 15mm on APS-C

Ditch the Tamron and the 60D and get a full frame 5Dc or 5D2 - then the TS-e 17 or 24 will make sense. There is also the 14mm, but still provides distortion, which can be fixed in photoshop and other photo software.
the 17mm TSE in the 60D will a bit more than 24mm equivalent on FF.
if you are getting enough focal width with your lenses, then just get the TSE 24 - yes the tilt and shift feature will help

Not sure about this. when you stitch a TS though, you end up with something not quite rectangular, so the question may not be easy to answer.

I'll try to get round to doing a comparison for you (it will be with the EF 10-22 @ 10mm, but should be similar enough).

But in any case IMO, the shift feature is perhaps the #1 reason to get the TS-E. The sharpness is fantastic, but the main reason I got one was because I was fed up with tilted trees and I'm delighted with the TS-E in this regard.
