When it's 30 degrees you need every bit of battery you can spare. Weather sealing is also important to me...shooting waterfalls, desert, sand, whatever can be nerve-wracking on a 5D2 whereas on the 1 series I pretty much know I'm good. The 5D3 sure is pretty though...I bet it or the 1Dx are spectacular for astro work 5DS R | 1Ds Mark III | Canon 16-35mm F/4L IS | Canon 24-70mm F/4L IS | Canon 70-200mm F/4L | Canon 50mm F/1.8 STM | Sigma 24-35mm F/2.0 Art | Samyang 14mm F/2.8 |

I'd bet you real live money that the 5Diii will no doubt out perform the 5Diii in every IQ metric. 5DMKIII | EOS M | 14mm f/2.8 Rokinon | 15mm f/2.8 fisheye | 16-35mm f/4 L | 24-105mm L | 50mm f/1.4 USM | 100mm Macro f/2.8 L IS | 580ex II | Benro C2980F Veratile legs w/ Manfrotto 468MGRC2 Head | www.alaskanphotographs.com

Apr 12, 2012 12:53 | #7 Just curious whether there are any further developed questions on this question. Now that the 5d3 exists, does it look better than the 1DsIII to anyone? So far it really does not look better to me. We'll see about the 1Dx.

If Canon take a sensible pill and wake up to the fact that they need to update the 1Ds3, then I'd guess that would beat the 5d3. The 1dX is a non starter, nice camera but built for a different job. Is it the 15% reduction in resolution relative to the 1DsIII that's turning you off? The 1Dx is certainly optimized for other work, but that doesn't mean it isn't the best at landscapes, too.

Nobody is talking about the low ISO performance and DR yet. My fingers are crossed that the new, not updated sensor will not disappoint. It's a lot of $$ for an "upgrade" for those that have a 5dii, but it's gonna smack the 5dii all over the place in real life usage including landscape work. I guess we'll have to wait to find out. I've got a pocket full of hot pennies for you if I'm wrong. ![]() Well I believe you are wrong. There is nothing in all the tests that have been done that points to any improvements in the 5d3 for landscape work.

Have you seen what a modern medium format digital back kit will cost? The digital backs alone are enough to turn my hair white. We are talking second mortgage country. Not expensive, lets call it extortionate. Richard

For landscape work I can't imagine a 5D3 or 1DX providing significantly better files. 1DX MK II, 5D MKIV x2, 24L II, 35L II, 50L, 85LIS, 100LIS Macro, 135L, 16-35LIS, 24-105LIS II, 70-200LIS, 100-400LIS II
