Since Skip said to start this discussion here, I can't help but obey. :)

In this corner, weighing in at 30.3 ounces, known to everyone as the "High ISO Heavy Hitter", the Canon 5D Mark 3!

(the crowd cheers)

And in that corner, weighing in at 31.7 ounces, known to everyone as the "Megapixel Muscle Machine", the Nikon D800!

(the crowd boos, and many vegetables are thrown)

May the best camera win!

*DING DING*

Neither is rated against tomatoes, but I'd rather have a properly weather-sealed body and lens when photographing this. (external link)

A bit of acidic tomato juice seeping through the cracks in the body and corroding the electronics would be a disaster.

I think it is funny that you call the 5D3 a "high ISO heavy hitter", even though many of the early ISO samples are quite mediocre and underwhelming + smeared with heavy NR.

Other than that, I wish this thread good luck.

Oh, and..

I just wish the Canon was priced more competitively with the Nikon. To me that would even up the odds more than the mp comparison that constantly gets made. 22 mp is enough and with all the other features Canon has added, like pro metering and autofocus, low light level capabilities, high ISO and touch sensitive back wheel the 5D Mark III could have been a nice contender for the D800. But alas, Canon has priced it such that the poor Mark III has to run the race with a cast on one of its legs.

Is it really priced that differently? D800=$3000, D800E=$3300, 5D3=$3500. It all in the same ballpark (in the US at least). I think people are more disappointed this isn't a sub-$3K camera. It would be nice if both were but these cameras will be backordered for a long time at their current prices. Maybe the holiday season of 2013 they will start to come down.

I'm sure this has been posted somewhere:

"it is Nikon who has released their megapixel-enriched load on the public"
One more quote....
"Canon has decided to actually add a real autofocusing system in the Mark III, unlike the Mark II, which was rumoured to have some sort of autofocusing system in it."

Let see the photographs! Pretty sure the camera make/model wont't matter in most cases.

It's still kind of early to start this match. All we got are a few cherry picked samples and no raw samples yet. Can't start round one until the raw samples are released.

Waiting on the 7D mkII, should be a sub 3K camera, hoping around 2K.
