It's always a kick when we think we've prepared for one thing only to find Mother Nature throwing another our way. I recently added a blind and "re-structured" some landscaping in hopes of attracting Towhees and Thrashers into photo range. What I ended up with was a bonanza for Carolina Wrens and hence the following images.

A closer crop and different orientation of #3....just too cute!

I had a blast obtaining these captures and would often break out in laughter at the antics of these little birds. I hope some of them have brought a smile to your face too. As always I'm open to comments and critiques. Thanks for having a looksee!

Well great shots here Steve! Love the Wrens. They are quite comical, I agree. I love the habitats in these. Super job! May I ask what kind of blind you are using? Pics would be nice if possible. :) Thanks.

Those are great Steve! I really like the last one where the bird is looking so intently at his lunch.
Now tell me, are you pleased you bought the 500mm? :)

Great results considering the very slow shutter speeds, Steve! There is some blur in that first pic (at 1/40 sec) but the others came out quite well! Maybe try bumping the ISO to get a faster shutter speed. That camera will do a nice job with it! (edit -just had a second look at here and they are remarkably clear for the shutter speeds used. You have a very steady hand! And the habitat setup is perfect, I've been thinking about something similar but am waiting for the snow to go away first.

Fantastic shots Steve but a word of caution...watch the wrens or they will evict you from your hide.
Every spring they attempt to take over my garage, I have put nesting boxes up but Noooo they want the garage. Love all the shots well done.

WOW Steve ... I really enjoyed your last Wren set and this one is on par with that ... wrens are super quick little birds and as you can see in shot 2,3 & 4 they do like to hide out of sight, I've yet to get a decent picture of one myself ... as soon as I get a lock ... they are just as quick to be gone, so congratulations for bringing this beautiful bird out from under the the shadows and out into the open for everyone to enjoy ... Again a stunning set Steve ... Well done indeed

Your comments are always so gracious and greatly appreciated Mark. Yes, I'm enjoying the 500mm a great deal and felt like it's purchase was within my budget. Good all around!

Haha Ian, I wish I could take credit for steady hands, but Mr. Gitzo gets most of that credit! I also use a remote release in order to be able to shoot slower shutter speeds. As we know there are trade-offs and sometimes it doesn't work in my favor. Your great attention and comments are always welcome Ian.

I appreciate your comments Fee! I have plenty of images where it's doubtful whether there's a bird in them or not......hmmmm, my next thread.....:)

Yes Bret, that I did. I was also happy to be able to capitalize some. Thanks for your nice comments.

I'll have to admit more luck than skill on #8 Don, but sometimes the "spray and pray" approach works out. Thanks for stopping in...I appreciate it.
