I put this same post over in BIRD TALK instead of this one.
I was watching these snows feeding in a corn-stubble field at the Blackwater NWR in MD when they either got spooked or decided to re-position. I was shooting with a 50D and a Sigma 150-500. I had the lens extended to 500mm when they suddently rose up. I started shooting in the middle of them but had not pulled the lens back. They "swirled" right over the top of me and then eventually sat back down in the cornfield. Needless to say, I wasn't ready for the swirling, but I got some decent close-ups once I pulled my lens back. It was a spectacular sight!
Nice shot.
