It's not a lot in the grand scheme of things when spending a couple of grand on a camera or lens but :

Lexar 16GB 600X £97.49
Sandisk 16GB Extreme Pro £78.80
Transcend 16GB 600x £56.67
Delkin Devices 16GB x700 £49

Looking at price/speed I think I'll stick with the Transcend from now on.

Any idea why you are not getting the advertised 105MB/s read and 67MB/s write speeds?

Across the industry, read/x rating & write speeds that are listed on memory cards are based on tests done on an Industrial TestMetrix machine. The machines are designed to eliminate all "noise" associated with running speed testing on a traditional computer, thus achieving the highest possible read and write speeds. Actual throughput is typically quite bit slower across the board because you have bottlenecks such as the reader you are using, the speed of your computer, background programs that may be running, etc. We test every card that we manufacture on TestMetrix machines in house, and retest for throughput using USB 3.0 card readers and USB 3.0 compatible PCs. We also test on MACs, and keep records of each test to reference for consistency across manufacturing lots. This explains why you might get one set of read and write speeds on your computer, and your friend might achieve different results with the same card on their own computer.

Ideally, we'd all probably like to see ACTUAL throughput speeds listed on cards rather than TestMetrix speeds that are unrealistic in day to day use, that way we'd know what to expect when we go home and use them ourselves, right? Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for some), industry standard across consumer memory cards is to list the highest attainable X rating. Realistically, only standardized machinery that can test every card by every manufacturer on a level playing field is one that doesn't account for variables - like TestMetrix.

Delkin lists the X rating (based on the read speed and a standard calculation), read speed (which is redundant of the X rating, but necessary since many people aren't aware of how X ratings are calculated), AND write speeds. As some of you note above, write speed is probably the most important factor in choosing a memory card since it dictates how fast your equipment is able to save data onto the card. Be aware of high read speeds and x ratings if you can't find a write speed listed, as a high read speed doesn't always go hand in hand with a high write speed!

Hopefully this information was helpful, and happy shooting :)

Thank you for the info Anna

I must say I'm VERY impressed in the fact we have a Product Manager able and willing to come on the forum and explain details of the product they supply, certainly a huge plus for Delkin. It gives great confidence that if something ever did go wrong, that things would be sorted and we are not just sales numbers.
