I've been watching the pricing of the 5D Mark III. My opinions aside, I think it's interesting there has already been a price drop on battery grip, BG-E11.

Amazon still has it listed at the "announcement price" of $490 (I think the official price was $499).

BH is currently showing a price of $349.

I don't know if the prices are final as they are both in "pre-order" status, but I find it interesting. I can afford the gear, but like many people who can afford luxury goods, the issue often becomes one of perceived value rather than affordability.

Very good news....I just noticed this on B&H and did a double-take when I saw it. I've always used battery grips on my SLR's and automatically planed on buying the BG-E11 for my 5D Mk III preorder. Was disgusted at the original $490 price though and was seriously considering going grip-less for the first time in years.

$350 is still crazy-high for a grip though (I think I paid $250 for my 7D's grip when it was first released) but I can live with it. Plus the the extra multi-controller & quick control dial will be great to have.

SunTsu, thanks for this post. The original cost and tha lack of the ability pre-order with the new body was troubling (even though Nikon was listing the grip for the D800 @ $616 and selling for $449). I just placed my order to go with my body pre- order.

I paid $169 for the BG-E7 for the 7D. The BG-E6 for the 5D2 was $259.

Checked my old invoice and I paid $222.73 for the BG-E7 from Calumet a week before the 7D was released. I think B&H was charging $230 or $240 for it at the time.

I wouldn't be surprised if the BG-E11 dropped to $250-$275 a year from now.
