I am struggle with trying to get good shoot of my daughter's basketball games. I keep trying different setting, but can't seem to find what is best. This latest shot was taken with a Canon 5dII, 85mm 1.2. I used 1.2 aperture, 800 shutter and 800 iso, with custom white balance, AI Servo, center focus point and center weighted average metering. I seem to get a lot of yellow color cast and had to pull it all out in photoshop, but it also effected some yellow in the shorts. Then the hair line sometimes get a green tinge to it. Also, when I zoom in on the photo they are not sharp.
Should I use such a large aperture? Is my focus causing the photo not to be so sharp? Any help appreciated.

f/1.2 with the auto focus of the 5DII is asking for trouble.

I would try something like 1/640 f/2.8 ISO1600 to 3200 depending on the lighting.

Shoot raw and use auto WB unless you have the tools to properly set a custom WB for the court. It can get pretty close then you can tweak it in post.

AWB generally comes VERY close if your exposures are on. As said, decrease your aperture, 1.2 is very thin and the 5dmk2 does not have the best AF for sports.

Custom white balance can be dangerous if you don't do your grey card shot properly to catch the full cycling of the lights.

I know for some it's not the right way to do it, but I shoot RAW and adjust the white balance in Lightroom. Generally it works for me. Thinking of grabbing an ExpoDisk though...

Can you explain what you mean by this?

Fluorescent lights. They flicker rapidly. Check this post out: http://www.sportsshooter.com …odes/wbtests/pages/3.html (external link)
