99.9% of my camera purchases are B+H Photo in NYC...The absolute source for camera equipment, always top shelf.....However...I just found my self in a bit of a financial bind, and at the same time needed a new flash... Best Buy (gasp) is selling the 580EXII for the same price as B+H at $469 (unheard of, I know), AND they have a promotion of 18 months 0% interest on anything over $429....cheers...hope this helps some fellow photogs on a budget!

Well look at it this way 0% when you add $30 additional + tax is about the same as paying the interest over time.

He was pointing out, that the tax you'll pay by buying it locally amounts to about what the interest would be if you did have to pay interest.

all the best buys I've been to refuse to match amazon pricing (and yes, it was sold by them). oh well. amazon prime, no tax. *click*.

Just watch out. If you make one late payment, they will put your interest to something like 20%

Yep, unless you're dead broke (then you probably shouldn't be being a flash anyway), it's much cheaper to go with a number of other online retailers that sell it cheaper and with no tax.

this is correct if you assume no one is charged tax by amazon and that no one pays tax on their tax returns.

however the OP is in new york. as far as i know he will pay tax at both retailers. so it's only 30 dolalr difference. at a 14% credit card rate (a common credit card rate) and assuming op pays it off in 12 months (instead of 18months like the bb deal) the OP is better off goign with best buy as if bought from amazon and paid over 12 months he would pay 489.06 (not including tax). he can also get an extra 6 months to pay it off and walk out with it the same day...

tax becomes a non factor in his instance as amazon and bb both collect tax in NY if i'm not mistaken.

if you are gonna pay it off in 30 days, then amazon has the better deal.
