These are great compositions and technical accuracy is spot on too. Makes me want to hear the music they were playing, I'll bet it was really good...

There is quite a bit of grain so I assume the lighting was low with high ISO, maybe some noise reduction like Noise Ninja or Lightroom can compensate a little bit...

Just a few from me.

#2 looks like you were back stage, nice angle/perspective...

The last two, and this one were from a band called Making Faces out of West Palm Beach FL, they were in Ocala Fl doing a show, and Hired me to come out for them...

What lens did you use on this shot? Extremely shallow depth of field, maybe an f/1.4 or f/1.2? The focal point is on his chin and by the time it gets back to his teeth it already falls out of focus. Nice composition, the groups name fits...

Thanks heaps for the nice comments. Was great music. I am starting to think a bit less noise would be preferable but the band liked the softer noisy feel. I was going to do another set "smoother" to see how they look. Ran out of time on the original set.

Everything is "local" it just depends where you are from. "Home is where the head lies" The focus is simply smaller venues and the challenges they bring to photography.

#6 is by far my favorite and one of the better back lighting shots I've seen! Spot on focal point of the subject and great use of depth...

#1 might use a tighter crop, possibly vertical? I think you'd get a similar effect with less dead space.

#2 seems to have a focal point of the guitar instead of the guys face. If that was the intent then you got what you were shooting for but it looks off at first glance.

#7 Is a great "eye catcher", looks like you got his attention and he's looking right at the camera. I'll be he'd really like to see this shot.

Thanks for the feedback! The only reason #1 is like that is I'm so used to cropping photos to 3:2 aspect ratio. Now that I look at it though after you said it, I think it would look better with a vertical crop.

The guy with the drink all over his shirt is hilarious and the girl on the far right makes you wonder what she's even doing there! ;)

Trombonist Carly Meyers of The Mike Dillon Band play for a free show at the Crystal Bay Club in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. December 8th, 2013.

Jazzy Punk Rock with a couple of vibraphone's and a girl playing a trombone? Come on it doesn't get any better than that. The sounds that come out of this group are incredible. If you ever get a chance to see them go for sure you will happy you made it!

Fantastic shots of Carly! #3 is my fave. She is such a dynamo on stage. I saw Mike Dillon Band twice this year - once in the spring opening for Umphrey's McGee and then in October at Yonder Harvest Festival. While I greatly enjoy experiencing their "punk jazz" style in person, it's not the kind of music I'd play at home. They are definitely worth checking out if they are playing near you. Mike Dillon is a beast - I've never witnessed a better vibes player.

Here's some from the last local (STL) show I shot. The headliners are friends of mine and asked me to shoot, so I just went ahead and shot the whole show.

I agree with you all the way. I'm not a punk rocker (too old) but they do it intriguingly (is that a word?) and tastefully. It was an after party show for Dragon Smoke. I thought I'd catch a song or 2 but was mezmerized and stayed until 3:30a and still had to drive an hour to get home. Mike is the man on the vibes and their live performance is a real show stopper!

Love #3, was the stage lighting green? #5 is excellent too. What is STL?
