Ok, I have tried shooting the moon several times with no success. The latest attempt was with my 55-250. This is the result. I'd like to capture the detail I see in other shots. This was handheld. I have also used a tripod but still don't get crisp shots. Any advice?

Use a tripod
Manual focus
Use live view if you have it
Start with: 1/160th f/8
Don't rely on what your camera sensor tells you as the moon is a lot brighter than you would think.
