I was just wondering if there's been any changes to these lenses since they were introduced? I plan on looking for a nice used one soon and I didn't know if I should be concerned with any certain date code models that had any older technology etc.
Thank you.

None that I am aware of and I checked before buying my 500/4 used about a year ago. What I learned is that they're all good to go.

I forgot to state that I'm looking into the "IS" models.
Thanks.

I would suggest you look for a brand new one. With the prices I have seen on used ones recently, I'd rather have the warranty than save $7-800 on a lens this expensive. Probably be hard to find a new one, but worth looking if it were me.

Mine is stellar BTW and not for sale.

It depends; the mark 1 versions of these lenses are being replaced with the updated (and more expensive) mark 2 versions. These mark 2 versions have updated IS systems, AF motors and newer optical coatings.

There weren't any significant updates ro the mark 1s during their lifecycle, though. So, if you find one un good condition it should still be good to go.

Thanks. I definitely can't justify the price of a new Mark ii. Are there any of the old style still available new any where? I haven't seen any.

Used is probably the market you're going to find the MkIs in. Even my local shop stopped stocking them a couple of months back.
