Today I was granted permission by a small nightclub to shoot a band appearing there in May. Being that I've never shot in a club, I just was looking for any tips/tricks that might be helpful. I know a high ISO is a must, as well as pretty fast lenses.

My gear is:
1D4
7D (which might be replaced by a 1D3 by then...)
70-200 2.8 Mark II
50 1.4
85 1.8
24-70 2.8

The stage looks to be about 1-2 feet above the floor, and the crowd can stand right up to it. My backpack holds all my gear so I am not afraid to bring it all. Also, the owner today showed me a wall of guitars that the acts sign when they play there, and he wants to start hanging pics next to them of the acts that signed them, so if I do well I might be the one taking the shots.

So any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of threads on the topic here as this is a FAQ. I know a lot of the clubs in Providence, but not sure if you are shooting one there, or what their lighting rig looks like. You have many of the same lenses that I have, or have owned. Two bodies and the two zooms are great if the light permits, however in many small clubs you might find the best set up the 24-70 and 85 1.8 and it sounds like swapping will not be an issue, so you could always change. Check out other similar threads for tips; wide aperture, high ISOs, and as high a speed as you can get.

Canon 5DIII, 7D, 40D, 8-14L, 24-70 f2.8L, 70-200 f2.8L IS, 24L, 50L, 85 f1.8, 100L, 135L, 1.4 Extender, Tokina 16-28 f2.8, and too many lights and accessories to list.

I would bring the 1D4, 50 1.4, and 85 1.8. The only reason I would bring the 7D is for back-up in case the 1D4 fails. I don't see any reason to bring the 70-200 providing you can get close to the stage.

Thanks. Yea, wasn't thinking about the 70-200 since I can get pretty close. I still do want to bring a backup body, I'm paranoid that way.. :)

Lol...

No, it's a place called The Rock Junction, in Coventry, RI. They are having a ton of old heavy metal bands there in the next 3-4 months, so I asked about shooting.
