Before I purchased my RRS set up based on good input from POTN last month, I ran across the very one you're referencing. I tried to contact that company regarding info and frankly got nothing worthwhile regarding my questions.
If the product is no better than the product knowledge it's not anything I wanted.
I walked away!

I can't comment on the L plate, but Sunwayman/Sunwayled/Sunwayphoto are the same company.
Sunwayman make a range of very good flashlights (I'm carrying the very reasonably priced titanium V10R TI at the moment) and the company owner is a photographer.

After the experiences I have had with the company in using their flashlights, I would be happy to buy their L plate (and probably will when I eventually switch to an A/S system

Would you care to expand on that?

An L-plate is something you really want to fit the body like a glove so it doesn't twist or block any ports or doors.

Would you care to expand on that?

1. Who knows if the vertical part of the L plate will even match up with his cameras.
2. Center of the vertical part of plate is not open. How will you remove side covers for attaching wired shutter release? You would have to loosen 2 screws just to move it over.
3. One of the reviews even says "It does NOT allow the battery door of the K-5 to open when installed. Not a problem for me, but I may but a few mm off the end to allow the battery door to open." OP would need to measure beforehand to see if it even works.

In my many years of experience, I've learned that anything that states "universal fit" never fits the way that it should. Save your money and get the real deal, either an RRS or Kirk L-bracket.

What Argyle said.

A universal fit means it may, or may not fit what you need it to fit. And if it does fit, it probably won't be great. Also, as has been mentioned, you'll probably have to take it off to change batteries or plug in a remote shutter release.

Though it could be handy to have around for those times when you pick up a new body and have to wait 2-3 days for Kirk or RRS to deliver a proper L bracket. Happens to me all the time.

I agree. A universal L-plate is not a good idea, you should buy an L-plate that is customized for your camera body. And be careful doing that too, as even some of the camera-specific plates have issues with things like cabling.

Having said that, I'm not familiar with any of the brand names in this thread. If the product you refer to is made by Sunwayfoto (with an "f"), then it's probably well designed and engineered. I use a Sunwayfoto plate on a Rolleiflex TLR and it's very sturdy and makes a great connection.

I appreciate everyone's feed back. I think I am going to try it and reply back with my thoughts. I got a 30D, 50D, 7D and 1D MKIII I can try it on. So maybe it will work on one but not another. Will reply back soon.

Yeah, I could tell all that by looking at it. I thought you might have some personal experience with the product that you could share. Your initial response sounded like you had some kind of horror story with the product/company.

The fit of the universal plate could be an issue, but I've had good experience with the quality of their products.

I bought a bunch of their stuff to make a fixed nodal point rig (panos/stitching). Have no qualms about the quality of their machining, nothing looks out of place on top of my arca d4 head, or next to my RRS L-plate.
