All of these were taken at Iona beach in Richmond.

It was very sunny when I head out to Iona and just when I was taking pics of the ducks in the pond, cloud rolled in. This female hooded merganser was just quietly swimming and I was a bit surprised that she 'flashed' me when she saw me taking pics :)

This was taken in the afternoon, the sunlight was hitting the left side of the kestrel which made it difficult to expose the eyes. Should have brought my flash:) We did a bit of 'catch me if you can' act until he (or she) decided to stick around for a few minutes. I was pretty close and he didn't flew away.

Those are both great looking birds jodelak!
I love the "flash" of the merganser, and then the "get the heck outa here" too. I got a nice chuckle from her last 2 images.
The Kestrel is gorgeous especially considering the tough light with which you were working. I like the catch light you got in the 1st image...very nice. I do have to ask though, were you shooting near a prison w/that razor wire?

Beautiful images of the two species, Jodelak! Love the low perspective on the Merganser. :)

Jo, that brought a smile to my face I can tell you :) Those Merganser pics are brilliant, especially the 'Whatd'ya think of these?' in #3, priceless!
The Kestrel shots are really good too BTW, well done for getting so close.

Thanks Mark. LoL, not this is not near a prison, this was shot beside the Vancouver airport that's why its heavily fenced. They run a very tight security there, just a few minutes stopping beside the fence and a secutiry car will be right with you :)

Thanks Fee, I went home with shoes dripping wet because of this :) Not blaming the merganser, its my own stupidity thinking below the grass is solid ground :)

Thanks Mark! I think there were a few more words after that 'Whatd'ya think of these?' phrase :)

Fantastic shots Jo. The Kestrel is very cool! You being able to get so close is a great job by you.
