Second Music video for me, again it's about the music...

So this was the second of the two songs that we recorded for this band (Salasee and Fafa Family). My part in this was recording the band as well as mixing the song and getting it to this point. The footage part of this video is not really important as this was shot using only one of the 8 or 10 cameras on the floor for this music video shoot and footage taken from my HTC Amaze 4G cell phone. HA!

I had to do several different things to each part of the song before I could even start editing it together. First both recorders I used recorded at their default of 30fps (not 29.97). So I had to resample the two recordings. Then I needed to make adjustments to the first half of the recording (vocals, Keyboards, some drums) and then do the same adjustments to the second recording (bass, other drums, and background vocals). Once all that was done, then I had to sync the two together, mix it down and then sync it to the video. So there was a fair amount of work that I had to put into just the music part to get it to the edit.

Then trying to sync in that cell phone footage. Wierd stuff that is. Vegas says it records at 120fps! I messed around with it some and when slowed way, way down, that 120fps stands up and is supper smooth! But the audio track on it was just blown out and was hard to find the sync. I was just guessing at certain points.

I mixed in the cell phone video to help break up some of the 7D footage. The guy using my 7D had his assignments to shoot the what he could handheld as well as the drummer and the bass player. So a complete video isn't done yet. My part in this was strictly recording and mixing the music. I shot my HTC Amaze with one hand while I adjusted levels with the other. Pretty good I thought!

So grab a pair of headphones to hear the song and forget about the video part really. I know some of the lips don't sync with the music on the wide shots. The HTC video came from the first time they played that song. The actual song I used was the second recording. They are about 10 to 15 seconds different in length.

Man when I see the results of the cell phones today I just cant believe how far weve come! Yea I know this was just handheld and mixed in with a 7D (which I thought would look terrible) but damn, this IS A CELL PHONE! lol

That being said I will preface this with I just listened to it on really crappy earbuds on my work computer so I need to go home and hear it properly, but I think the mix levels were well done, dig the song, but I did feel a bit like the vocals needed to be be the tiniest hair brighter, although that could have been because of these POS headphones I have on right now. Ill have another listen at home through the system and see what I hear.

What mixer did they use and what did you record into? And overall Id say it was a great second go at this kind of recording. Id love to see the final edit if you get a copy posted.

I used my SD 552 and it's built in 2 channel recorder and my Tascam DR-100 for the other two channels that I had to record to. I bet it was your earbuds that didn't have the high end needed for the vocals.

That was a treat man sounded great. Not even begun to think about the world of sound
