The Nik Sharpener Pro 3.0 User Guide directs the user to the Printer Manual to obtain the correct resolution for printing on an inkjet printer.

I have a Canon Pro 9000 Mk11 and normally use the XPS driver. I am unable to find resolution data in the printer On-screen Manual.

Is there a way of working this out for various paper sizes?

Far too much interest in techniques, not nearly enough photographs taken!!

"Resolution" can have different meanings when it comes to printing, but when you are doing direct printing to your printer the only substantial meaning is the resolution in pixels of the image that you are printing and how that will be rendered by the printer.

For smaller print sizes you don't need to worry about changing the resolution of your image, just print it.

As your print sizes get larger, you may consider enlarging the image so that you get an optimal size for printing, one that works out to, say, 300 pixels per inch, but to start, a photo from a contemporary camera has enough resolution that you won't have to worry about it as long as the photo is of good quality.

Check out this FAQ on printing and enlarging:

Yes, I'm happy with all that Tony.

Nik Sharpener Pro manual states the following:

Printer Resolution – The Printer Resolution selects the resolution that the print will be printed at. Choose from the drop down menu the resolution that the printer will be printing at. Please refer to your printer’s manual to determine the appropriate resolution to select.

The aforementioned Pro 9000 Mk11 Printer Manual does not state this resolution for various sizes of print or other variables.

The question remains, where do I source this information?
