The number of discussions is unbelievable, both on-line and off-line.
Times are exciting and with 2 most expected cameras are out, what is your decision?

To be honest I'd upgrade to a 5D3 if the price was more reasonable, but at £3,000 ($4,700 or so) it's too far out of my price range for now. Had it been sub £2,500 I would of had my 5D2 and 7D up for sale already. Unless I can find a reasonably priced grey market deal I'm sticking with what I've got.

I happen to have a rare alignment of cash in the bank and a few events/vacations coming up worthy of better high ISO performance and AF. I ask myself when will I upgrade to a 5D3?

I figure by buying it now, I can use it for the big personal events for the year vs. waiting until next year.

If I wait until next year to buy the 5D3, I'm guessing the price will drop by no more than $500. So, am I willing to spend $500 extra for the next year of use?

Finally, if the camera doesn't work out in the first two weeks, I have the option of returning it. So being an earlier adopter seems reasonable for my situation.

Still too early to tell. They both need to get out there into real peoples hands and show what they can do.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

It's official: just pre-ordered the D800 last night. Very excited. I have no doubt that both will be outstanding cameras. The decision just comes to what makes the most sense for each user. The D800 fits my photography goals and needs perfectly. Not looking forward to selling my Canon gear though.

A D800 and a 14-24 should make that inconvenience worthwhile I would think. ;)

Just pre-ordered the 5dIII last night, it will run alongside our current 5dII, and we will be retiring our 550d.

As a wedding shooter in some god aweful dark church's that don't allow flash, I wanted more noise reduction at the raw level than it looks like we will get, but I will take it anyways. Also as someone constantly fighting the 5dII to auto focus at the dark dances when running OCF and just a transmitter.......the focus system is what did me in. If that first time the couple rotates in the perfect spot for me to get the flare I want for a dramatic shot...and it just locks and takes the shot first try......it will be worth the $1000 extra over the 5dII in that one moment. Dual cards is nice too, we run 2 cameras at the wedding, but having that backup will be nice.

5d Mk III - 5d Mk II - 550d - 24-70L - 70-200L IS II - 24-105 F4 L - 85 1.8 - 50 1.4 - 60 Macro - 15 Fisheye

The specs are really strong on the 5d Mark III, but not strong enough for the price Canon is asking. The D800 offers more bang for the buck. Let's just hope that doesn't continue the eroding of Canon's market share to Nikon.

If the 5DMII were a lot less, I might consider it. But, I am very happy with what I have.

A move would be easier if one wouldn't have to completely shift lenses along with the body. I don't forsee them losing too much ground; the MKIII looks to be quite an impressive piece of gear.

5d3 is a no-brainer for me as soon as funds allow. For my style of photography, it would be great.
