The specs are really strong on the 5d Mark III, but not strong enough for the price Canon is asking. The D800 offers more bang for the buck. Let's just hope that doesn't continue the eroding of Canon's market share to Nikon.

i honestly want nikon to erode MORE of canon's market share. That way canon will have to do MORE to get it back. however, with the specs of the 5d3, I am sure it will satisfy quite a lot of people.
the price of the 5d3 is expensive (subjective), but for people that want to get it, 500$ will not sway them to a d800. the features of the d800, if thats what the person is interested, might.

I have the 5D III on preorder. I will try it and make up my decision if i am going to keep it and if i dislike it i will return it for the D800 and then sell the 24-105 and get the nikon version.

It's a no-brainer for me. The AF is the seller. Everything else is just icing on the cake (extra stops of ISO etc etc) as I already love the heck out of my 5D2, even with her quirks.

I would have gotten a 1-series ages ago, if not for the built-in battery grip. The 5's are the cameras for me.

I'm staying on both sides. There's nothing leaps and bounds with the 5D III to make me want to buy it when I already have my reliable 1Ds III.

If I didnt have alot of Canon glass it would be a no-brainer. But I only made the switch to Canon less than 2 years ago (due to their far superior video), and dont want to have to do that all over.

That being said if it was easy, the D800 is a far superior camera (my perception at this juncture)... I could actually take or leave the 36 mp or FPS, but pro Nikon AF, af metering, pro Nikon weather sealing, facial tracking and metering, far superior auto iso and flash control... its a good time to be a Nikonian thats for sure... I guess i'll be 'settling' for the mk3...(mostly sarcasm)

PS there needs to be another poll option:

"Would switch to the D800 if it wasnt a big pain in the rear"

The more I think about it, the more I understand that 5D MKII is so good that it is difficult to find a reason for a switch. It will not be until 6-12 months from now that we will see real differences if they exist.

D800 far superior? Did you try them both out to come to that conclusion? I honesty don't think it will be.

5d3 is a no-brainer for me as soon as funds allow. For my style of photography, it would be great.

Yep have mine ordered and will keep the 5D II as a back up for now.

Why is this an 'OFFICIAL' poll?
