In case you didn't know, the D800/E will possibly have a DR 14.5/15 of EV while the 5D 3 will still only have 12 EV. Not a big jump compared even to the 5D II and 1Ds III. ;)

Ya ok but that doesn't mean it is far superior as a whole, I am sure they will both be great;)

Julian, make sure to replace all your Canon cameras with Nikon neck straps.:p

OT, I am staying and already ordered a Mark III. I can easily sell my Canon gear as I don't have that much and probably only loose a few hundred quid. Trust me, I almost went to the dark side, like very, very close.

But in the end I will stay with big Red and ride out the storm. I want to eventually learn how to shoot wedding and I think the 5D3 is a better fit for the job than a D800. Also, the 5D3 also will improve on the 5D2, which was and still is one of the best landscape camera ever, for landscape photography so I also gain there as well.

Got mine for a slight discount of $3,345.00 also didn't hurt either. ;)

Speaking of Crop, is this guy for real!

"With its monster resolution of 36Mp, one can feel free to crop like crazy. As stated above, even when cropped by a factor of 2x, the D800 will still have a resolution of around 9Mp. When cropping by a factor of 2, one also effectively doubles the focal length of a given lens, and also saves a lot of money. Example: by cropping at a 2x factor, one can use a $1,200 300f4 VR Nikkor to the same effect as the $8,000 600f4VR Nikkor. Another example: the $2,300 70-200 f2.8 VR effectively transforms into a 140-400 f2.8 optic, equaling in focal length and bettering in aperture the $7,000 200-400 f4 VR. For all of this money saving ability, the only cost is having to shoot at a “measly” 9Mp, which is still big enough for most purposes.

Talk about savings!

Want to buy a D800? As for pricing and availability, the D800 will hit stores for $2999 in March while the D800E will arrive in April for $3299."
