Dang! New LR3 64-bit installation screwing up!

I recently had to do a new installation of Win7 64, so had to install LR3.6 64-bit and it's misbehaving! In the Library module the filmstrip and the grid/Loupe views don't play well together!

Why did you not simply restore a System Image -- Win 7 64-bit with complete with all of your installed applications programs, rather than a fresh Win 7 64 which forced reload of all software?

[edit] Oh, in the linked thread you mentioned that you had just upgraded to Win 7 64-bit, so no system image was written onto a harddrive, to Restore!

On my own PC, it came with Win 7 64-bit installed, and I then went to Adobe website to download LR2 64-bit (I had LR2 upgrade DVD for 32-bit). Later I upgraded from LR2 to LR3, but encountered no particular issues.

The OS was XP 32 bit, and it totally shut down, so may not have been an option. So I had the choice to do a fresh re-install of XP or pick up Win7. Since I've been using Win7 hassle-free on my laptop, I figured what the hey -- I added 4 more G of Ram and went with the Win7.

Yeah, no issues with my laptop, it's just very strange behavior and I'd be interested if there was "something" I could do or just try a re-install!

I'd de-install, then re-install.

Yeah, that's probably what I'll need to do, since there have been no answers in the LR forum. Oh well.

Well, upon reflection, I thought that it had been a while since I had rebooted this machine, and wasn't sure if it had been rebooted since I installed Lightroom. Don't know for sure, but I rebooted and before I uninstalled it I decided to just start the program and see how it behaved, and now it acts just fine! I don't know if just restarting Lightroom would have shaped it up, oh well.

Side note: If you're using LR with dual screens, there is a "Live Loupe" option (Toggles with Shift+Z): Loupe view will show whatever file the mouse is hovering over in the other screen. There's also an option "Locked" for Loupe (toggles with Shift+Cmd+Return)

The axiom proves true once again, "When in doubt about any computer that is acting up, reboot!"

Heh! That hasn't been as true in the past few years as it used to be, but it is a good reminder!

A bunch of years ago when I did technical support for a big factory we had to work with computers that ran tests using MSDOS, and we always chuckled that people would be amazed at how quickly we could get something up and running when we knew that the "secret" was Ctl-Alt-Delete!
