I struggled for the greater part of the morning with shutter speeds in an off and on down pour of rain. (I tried to shoot during the off time!)
I love the rich saturation on days like this, but without introducing a ton of grain, the slightest movement of the bird produces a blurry image.

Some days we just have to give up and except defeat!
I just wanted to get out and shoot something.
I should know better, but there is always a voice in my head telling me that I am superman and can shoot in the dark at ISO 100 (Yeah Right!)

Below are some mediocre images from this morning.
Feel free to rip them apart.
Maybe a good reeming will make me think twice about leaving the house next time.

Northern Cardinal - Male

A lovely set Shawn, too hard to pick a favourite out of them as all are so good.

well, must admit, I never go out if it is wet, and often think I should. Whilst the first 4 are a bit dark, I would rather have these than to have sat in the house! Last one is a lovely pose, great catch Shawn.

Very nice images, I like each shot, but especially the chickadee... and I shoot a lot in dark, wet conditions... mostly because of necessity :(

Thanks Tina, I could lighten them a bit in pp, but the day was what it was!

Thanks Dave!
I just noticed that the chickadee is an image of a bird that I had photographed earlier in the year.
Good to see it is still alive!

Great series of shots Shawn, cloudy conditions can provide really nice images as proven here.

I feel your pain, man! If I don't shoot in gloom and rain, I wouldn't get any pics for half the year :p

You did quite well with these; the chickadee and nuthatch shots are particularly good.

Just goes to prove that you don't need bright sunny skies to take excellent photos! Great job!

I think you did fine under the circumstances Shawn. Not every day can be bright and sunny, and shooting on days like this test you as a photograher.
You've brought out some pretty colors in the Cardinals and House Finch (looks like it to me), but the Nuthatch is the cream of this crop to me. Of course I am a little biased - :) . The only thing I see to CC is that the BC Chickadee looks a little underexposed to me. Go figure right....on a dark, rainy day.
