Just picked it up tonight and was all excited to play with it and the battery was dead!!!! Gotta a question though. My 60D had a broader range of AEB. Is this gonna be noticeable when I go to do HDR? By the way along with my new 5d, I got the TS-E 17mm so I kinda spent a little money tonight!!! This weekend is gonna be awesome yet stressful. It's always fun to learn new things.

The AEB is what it is. What a great camera the 5DII is. The TS-E17 is phenomenal.

Oh, no you don't want the TS-E 17mm with the 5DII. You're screwed, sell it now!

You do realize that almost every lens you own and are likely to own will now appear to be a bag-o-s*ite? Every zoom you thought was sharp will now look soft and mushy, especially in the corners.

On a serious note (esp. as you have some nice primes), I was worried about the EC being only +/- 2 stops with another +/-2 stops AEB, but so far no problems really; although it doesn't leave any room. Also, in reality you have a least a stop more leeway in PP than with the 60D and so far I've been OK.

You might find a few things like this that make you wonder, but then when you start manipulating the images it doesn't seem to matter as much.

The AEB and faster frame rate in the 5DIII will be nice, especially with a scene that has any movement.

ejenner,

You made my heart skip a bit!! Thankfully I read on! I'm excited to use this combo. I was thinking about selling the 35L but decided to keep it. Hope this was a good idea. Is it OK to keep the 17 attached to the camera when not in use? With my 60d and tamron 10-24 I didn't care cuz it wasn't that much money but with my new gear, I'm kinda nervous. I transport my gear in a backpack with my other lenses.

Sure, why not? You've got more of an issue with a telephoto attached because of the leverage.

I couldn't believe how well flare is controlled with the TS-E17 when I first started using it.

Let's break this down a little.. Most people get stressed trying to pay for something all the way up to finally buying it.. As the stress is coming afterwards, I guess that there is someone else that might not know of the expense yet ?? Just guessing though...

Congratulations on the new gear.. ;)

I couldn't believe how well flare is controlled with the TS-E17 when I first started using it.

I am amazed too. Still, it is perhaps worth mentioning that it will flare a bit with the sun off to the side or very slightly behind when a 'normal' (non-bulbous) lens would not. It's not a big deal at all since you can easily shade the lens with something. Even when it does flare it is usually just a small 'blob' or two of color than can be fixed in PP. The reason I'm mentioning it is becasue those flare 'blobs' are small enough that you really can't see them on the LCD so you don't notice them until PP. Just something to watch out for.

With the sun aimed at the lens or where you can't shade the lens, it does remarkably well and so far I have not had any problems. In other words the only flare I have had that was a bit annoying was such that I could/should have easily prevented it.

I don't really have an opinion about the 35L, it's not a FL I use very often and I'd personally be more likely to get the 24L as a fast wide prime and probably more for 'arty' stuff than landscape or portraits. To be honest I'm using the TS-E with 1.4 and 2x TC for landscapes and have been happy with the results. Even with the 2x it is sharp enough for me that I prefer that option over the 17-40 or 24-105 at 34mm, plus you get the tilt and shift capability. Just used that for a sunrise this morning and it seemed to work well.

You can get around the 3 bracket by using exposure compensation on static scenes, just spin the control dial to move the 3 shot bracket and shoot again
