Too much haloing in the first one in my opinion. The second one looks nice though.

To me, the perfect HDR shot is when the HDR look is minimal--or even better non-existent. The first shot screams "edited", though it is a good subject for HDR. The second shot editing wise looks much better, though it isn't as good of a subject.

What software are you using to process the HDR?

I am using Photomatix...shot at -2 / 0 / +2

First time using the program so just messing around with the sliders.

What is the best (and most simple) way of getting rid of the halo's?

I am using Photmatix and have Adobe Elements 10

You have to back off the strength and/or click Light mode and try different settings from Min to Max. Or use a different style like fusion or compression.

The editing on 2nd one is alot more natural and more pleasing for my eye. The first one is a bit overkill for my taste. The light mode in Photomatix is the meanie that creates halos.

theres also a good guide for HDR at http://www.stuckincustoms.com/ (external link)

Toned it way back and went for a more natural look.
The sky is not as dramatic but at least no crazy halo's.
