Wanting to buy a higher end camera

My wife is looking to buy a higher end digital camera. Budget around $1200.00. Does anybody have any reccomendations?

You have posted in a forum where the most expensive camera is less than $600. Many of us are in the same boat. My advice is a Rebel XT and a few nice lenses. Remember, you posted to a Canon forum, so you may not get unbiased answers.

Even though it may have been the wrong forum, I think many here are studying the same thing.

In some ways I would like to stay with a non-dSLR, but every high end fixed lens camera has too many tradeoffs.

The budget dSLR with the best low light performance (which is my main reason for upgrading) seems to be the XT. I am trying to save enough to buy the XT, two decent zooms and the 50mm 1.8 prine. I'm not sure you can do that for $1200, but you can get close. Of course, then you need a flash and a large card. It never ends.
