I have a Pro 1 which I use as a take-anywhere camera when I don't want carry a bunch of gear. I think it makes great photos. I have made very good 16x20 prints from the files. It does have some disadvantages, the main being slow focus and shutter reaction time making it very difficult to use for action photos. It is also has more digital noise at higher ISO settings due to the smaller sensor. But the images are very sharp. On the other hand, if I were going to do it again, I would buy the new Sony DCS-R1 instead of the Pro 1 which has an almost-APS size sensor and wider-angle Zeiss lens. I think this may be a really killer camera.

It's not a point and shoot. It has an "L" zoom, RAW capture, manual exposure control, manual focus control, in short, almost everyting a D-SLR has except interchangeable lenses.
