Got the chance to shoot my old high school's volleyball game! Here are some of my favorites. C&C is always appreciated and acknowledged!

Volleyball is fun to shoot and a challenge.

On #2, you need to be shooting 180 degrees on the opposite side shooting back toward the face of the spiker.

On #3, get your shots of the setter on those occasions when he faces you. Here you are behind him.

Shot #4 needs the ball in the frame.

The set of shots seems a bit overexposed.

Shoot and post more volleyball!

Phil

As always, Phil is dead on- Here are a few other thoughts-

I find that volleyball is a sport where you can shoot and crop a little tighter than most. In a lot of cases, there is little below the waist that is needed. Faces, balls, opponents, shoot tight, crop tighter- the classic advice, all applies here.

The challenge is the typical light in most gyms. Your colors seem pretty good, which is half of the battle. As Phil noted, tweak the exposure and you are on the right track.

Thanks Phil and sfinkernagel! I will definitely take that advice. I was stuck in the bleachers so thats why my angles are all from the same side. I will definitely take your advice on the angles when I shoot the next game. I wont be in the bleachers lol and in pp I exposed it more but I guess I need to calibrate my screen cause it seemed dark when I was editing.

Check your whites- the girl's t-shirt in the last shot, or the tape on the nets- there is little or no detail there. Depending on your editing tools, you may want to try to boost the shadows without the highlights... Curves in Photoshop, sliders in Lightroom or ACR. Surely most programs have that capability, but those are the ones familiar to me.

Here's some ideas for high or low vantage points, long or short focal lengths. Be patient with yourself. Volleyball takes a while to shoot well.

Same C&C as others, a bit overexposed. Which can be fixed in post processing, if you use something like LIghtroom.

Another thing to consider is maybe leveling some of these shots. It's apparent they are crooked especially in that last shot with the rolled up bleachers.

Also, if you can, please number your images so we can C&C specific images.

zivnuska: Thanks for the inspiration! I'll definitely be looking at your site more often and practice those angles! I know it takes time but with time theres practice so i'm looking forward to it.

groovehouse: Thanks for the advice I didn't even notice they were crooked -_- and I normally do number them I just forgot this time.
