Anyone ever bought used lens from BH used department online ?
I find it difficult to buy used without any photos, just by the ratings they give to used items...

I bought both my 35L and 24-70 from their used department. The 35L came rated as a 9 but in reality could have been listed as a demo. The hood was a little scuffed up, but the lens itself -albeit being a UU date code -- was (and still is) pristine. The 24-70 was LNIB (rated a 9+ I believe) and the only imperfection across the gamut (packaging, hood, etc) that I can find is a very tiny circle missing in the front element coating which doesn't impact picture quality. For the savings these were listed at, they were absolutely worth the prices (got both for under $1000 each).

Just make sure to see what it comes with. If it doesn't say w/box, the lens may only come in its lens case, wrapped in bubble wrap. It was perfectly safe and packed well, but I was a bit disappointed (even though I knew the likelihood of not coming with a box was very high).

The one other thing is, any time where it says 'email for condition', it's usually a refurb, and these are usually fine too since they're done by Canon.

I've bought a ton of stuff from them. Ratings are very accurate.

I've gotten a MT-24, 24-105 and 100mm macro. All were just as described. The macro was version 1, no USM and lens extends. Nice lens but not what I wanted. (my fault, I didn't know that model existed) They took it back, no questions asked. Highly recommended.

I bought a 135l recently from them with a UU date code. It is in PRISTINE condition. Even the hood looks new. I should add it was rated (9).

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

Bought my 85mm f1.8 used from them. It appeared to be new. You can trust them.

Just received a used Nikon lens from them and it was better than expected. Also received one used from Adorama and it was also better than expection. Both always include caps and I've bought used from both for years without any trouble at all.

Both B&H and Adorama rate their used items very well. What you read rating-wise is what you get. They really know camera equipment pretty darn well! ;)

Recently bought the 85 1.8 (for $280) and 24-70L (for $960) from B&H used and I couldn't be happier. One rated at 9 and one at 8+ and they were both near mint. Priced better than the buy sell forum and faster shipping and a return/inspection period. Highly recommend them!
