Used 5D prices now that 5D3 is announced

I am looking to pick up a used 5D classic to try full frame against my 40D. With the 5D3 being released, I know the used market (eBay) prices for the 5D classic and 5D2 are likely to drop as people upgrade.

I'm guessing this hasn't happened yet. I know some people are probably selling their old kit in order to pre-order the new stuff. But I'm guessing most people are waiting for the 5D3 to arrive and test it before selling their old gear.

So, how many months are people figuring before the prices drop and it's "safe" to pick up a 5D without it depreciating rapidly in price?

5D3 being at $3500, I don't see the 5D2 and 5D drop very much. Especially if Canon decide to stop selling 5D2. But even if Canon continue to sell 5D2, it'll still hover around $1900(my guess) for a new one.

I think drive_75 is right... there are likely to be more out in the market for sale, but the price difference between all three bodies means the depreciation won't happen as quickly.

Why? Is the shutter count high? I can't find any used locally for less than $1800.
One on my local Craigslist has a small dent, so it obviously has had some kind of fall or hit, and he won't go below $1800. I tried to explain its a going to be a hard sell when you can buy one from canon with a 90 day warranty for only $100 more. I'm not willing to make that $100 gamble.

Ever changing.

I see them selling for $1,500.00 here, but its been two weeks now and no one has bought it yet. The 5D's are still around the same price, between $700.00-$900.00.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I'm still debating the markiii or markii. But if you were local I'd probably jump on it at the 1600 price. My local ones do have 10k or less on the shutters. I guess that could be part of the reason on the higher prices.

Right now people are having a hard time moving the original 5d for $850 on the "For Sale" section here. And some of those have grips included. I would wait 2-4 or even another six weeks and see if these same dslrs don't begin selling in the $750 range. After that they will most likely stay there for awhile until they bottom out at retail in the $550-$600 resale value.

geez,, thats seems crazy but at these prices I seen no reason why any one interested in FF cannot make the leap.

Even at $850 the 5Dc is actually tempting me a fair amount. I'd just have to be able to sell my 60D + kit lens for enough to cover the cost of a new-to-me body and a new lens. I have a couple accessories I would be able to throw in to help a little (spare battery, CPL), and a couple of other things I need to sell, anyway, but still... I also have a cell phone bill to pay.

Personally, I'm keeping an eye on the 5Dc market right now and over the coming weeks and possibly months. If some fantastic (and legitimate!!) deal comes up, I'm not liable for the sudden change in camera bodies and lenses...

I had thought about finally upgrading my 20D to a 7D but now I am really considering a leap to a 5dII as the prices my come closer together. The 20D when it came out was my introduction the world of DSLR after using an AE1 for a lot of years

There is 5 on craiglist right now in Austin where you typically see one or two in a week. But their asking prices are 100-200 dollars more than what bought my used 5D for a year ago. I doubt they will bet their average $900 asking prices.
