Canon 7D at 2000 fps (external link)

I know this was done with Twixtor, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried something similar with either After Effects built in frame blending or some other "free" solution.

For those unfamiliar, it's a 7D shooting 60 fps time remapped to about 2000fps using Twixtor's frame blending to smooth it out. It looks like something shot on a phantom flex, but about $90,000 cheaper camera.

here are a couple of tuts I found on youtube:

I tried both and the first one seemed to work a bit better for me. I was working with 24p 5D footage and got it down to 10% without much noticeable tearing or warping, but my shot didn't have a lot of contrast.

Is there more going on in that video? The clouds seem very sped up and something seems odd with the rain in the slowmo shots.

The rain is added junk matte / what he said ^
Ramping and Timewarp look up.
Twixtor is pretty killer little addin.
My first test out of the park wanted to see how far i could take it before i had distortion.. As well this was captured with a goprohd on one of the most overcast days with all the wrong backgrounds...
Twixtor is a learning curve the only other thing to do if you want dream footage is rent or buy a Red

I'm pretty new to this so these may be dumb questions. I'm thinking the sped up clouds are actually from an entirely different video? I did some searching around for junk mattes and it seems like most of the stuff I could find is in reference to using a green screen but surely he didn't have a green screen setup for these shots.

pretty much, from what i see, there are several pieces of video. similar to a photo with several layers in it that you put together in photoshop.. one layer is the subject, one might be the background, one might be something in front of the subject. you can have several different layers in a video just like a photo.

I guess I should've been more specific but technically, how would you do that in AE without a green screen? I saw watched some tutorials online regarding the rotobrush, would that be a way to accomplish what is done in this video?
