it doesn't seem to transfer with LR edits. Had no problem in LR3. Is it because of the older raw converter in CS5 or is there a setting I am missing in LR4?

You need to download the new ACR release candidate:

You'll still get a message that you don't have the right version (it will mention version 7.0), but the photos will actually open up in Photoshop just fine.

Or, when you select to edit in PS, you should get a dialogue that asks if you wish to "render using lightroom". Check this option and all will be good. If you don't get this dialog, go to Edit/preferences/prompts and reset all warning dialogs. This will return the prompt.

Yeah, that will work, but then you end up with a TIFF, so no smart objects that way.

I stopped getting it when I upgraded to LR4. I do still get it when Editing in Nik softwares from LR4.

Downloading the latest Camera raw plugin solved the issue. Thank you. Also, LR allows you to export to PS as layers or smart objects, etc. I could still do that but just not with LR edits, now all is good and I am back to creating stunning works of art.

Great to hear that you're back in business! Yes, that's what I meant: without the new plug-in, you can't use smart objects after editing in LR (you're basically starting over again in PS, which is not the same thing).
