Graphic Design/Photoshop problem

I'm trying to figure out how to get the worn-out effect of the letters on the attached pictures. I'm sure there is an action or a layer in Photoshop that I can simply drop on top of the text but not sure how. Does anyone know how best to achieve this look?

One way of probably many knowing photoshop:

Take a photo of a very tatty piece of paper/cloth or whatever (anything with the worn look you want) and simply superimpose it onto your original. Then use blending modes so that the added layer only shows on the lettering, not the background.

Put a layer mask over your text and then use texture brushes (as in, regular old brushes that are based on a texture) at a medium opacity on the layer mask to hide some of the text.

Note to OP:

Your examples would be much easier to see the correct way up.

Put a text layer over the Background.
Make sure the text has some width to it.
Put the texture layer above the text and clip it to the text layer beneath.
Lower opacity of the clipped layer.
Many different ways to get to the same end point.
