I've pre-ordered the 5D3 and was photographing the 5D2 ready for sale... just looking on ebay and other sites there's unsurprisingly a lot of used 5D2's for sale, many more "pristine" than mine, and with new prices for the 5D2 so low second hand is going pretty cheap.

I doubt I'll get much more than $1500-$1600AU and am having a hard time parting with it for so little. Thinking of trying to hang on to it as a second body and while handy truthfully this is not a necessity for me (I'm not a pro or anything).

Anyone else hanging on to their 5D2 as well as getting the 5D3? Reasons, thoughts etc?

i know the 5dmk2 beast. No one knows the 5dmk3 just yet. Once concern I have is if the 5dmk3 has the similar rigid files as the 7D due to the changes in the new 5D "version". I absolutely love the tack sharp Sooc files from the 5dmk2 so I'll hang on my bodies till I get to test drive a 5dmk3.

I'll more than likely get a 5DIII, but I'll keep my 5DII and put a focus screen in it.

Are you talking RAW or JPEG above for relative sharpness straight out of the camera? I like the colour and contrast of the 5d2 raw files better than that I got with say the 60D raws SOOC, but felt both needed sharpening up by default.

I plan on keeping my 5D2. I want a second FF body for events. I figure that if there's enough light to take advantage of the 5D2's matte focus screen with fast primes, there's probably enough light to not have to crank up the ISO so far that I'd want to use the 5D3.

I'd agree with this.I love my 5D MK II and the 5D MK III would make for a great combo. I', going to wait for it to be out a while and then make my decision. Maybe just maybe it might go down a shade, but I doubt that.

The thoughts above are interesting. I'm thinking as I do most of my Landscape work with a 24TS-E manually focussed and assuming there aren't any significant low ISO benefits in the mark 3 over the mark 2 I might as well keep the mark 2 with TS_E attached as permanent landscape combo.

If I got a 5dm3, I'd doubt I'd ever use the 5dm2 again, so it would be a sunk cost.
I would most probably get rid of it to help fund the purchase of the new body

Keeping the Mark II would be a waste of money for me, so I'm selling it to help fund the Mark III. I have a completely irrational emotional attachment to that camera, so it will be hard to let it go, but I've sold cameras before and know that I cease to miss them a few days after having liquidated those assets.

Until the 5DIII has been out for a while, has had several independent reviews and I've seen real world feedback from owners once we've got past the 'I'm really chuffed with my brand new camera' stage, I won't even contemplate getting rid of my 5DII.

I'm keeping mine, but will probably get the 1DX instead of the 5D3. I AM thinking about getting two 5D3s instead of the 1DX though, since they're cheap and that would then give me 3 high ISO capable bodies (for time-lapse)

Most likely though, I will get the 1DX and just keep the 5D2 as my time-lapse rig and backup.

That doesn't really answer his question. If you got a 5D Mark III and decided to keep it, what would you do with the Mark II?
