Kansas has started a Powerlifting championship for high school girls (the boys have had one). This is their 3rd year and my daughter said their lifting class from school was going to go. Of course she wanted me to shoot it and the officials were delighted since it was a chance for some publicity.
Well, the girls had a great time. The competition has gone from 15 lifters the first year, to 30, to this year's approximately 70 girls. My daughter won her weight class for clean and bench press. Her friend Meagan set a new state record by being able to clean 200lbs. A good time was had by all and this may catch on. Lots of girls are lifting for other sports and why not see who is best.

8. Her friend Meagan can too. Two Hundred of them! Valley Center won the state.
The organizers had one of the lifting stations set up where the girls were facing the wall. It was obvious that spectators and/or photographers weren't in mind during the planning. They deserve to be cut some slack since everyone is new to this and the increasing interest has appeared to surprise them and exceeded their most optimistic expectations.
