Hi all,

So today I went to pop my 16GB SanDisk Extreme CF in and, well, good things did not happen. Windows said the disk was blah blah and could continue and scan and fix issues, ok. So I did that. Then nothing opened. Fortunately there wasn't anything on the card worth much. I said ha! I got this! I popped it into my 5DII and went to format is, and no dice - when the car is in the camera and the camera turned on the red LED on the camera comes on but nothing comes up. If I remove the card and restart the camera the camera works fine with other cards. So then I tried to format the card from within Windows 7 - I got a "windows cannot format the card..." type message.

Now, when I insert the card into my PC it's not seen at all.

Any ideas? SanDisk has a lifetime warranty on this card but it'd be nice if I didn't have to go through all that.

Thanks,
Jon

You should contact SanDisk customer support they are really helpful. I have two of the 16GB Extreme.

It looks like they have a hotline for Extreme memory cards. or 1-866-SANDISK (726-3475)
Extreme Memory cards 1-866-270-5532. I'm lucky, their HQ is in my area.

Yikes!

Have a Mac/Linux machine to see if that recognizes it? Possible issue with the CF reader (unless you can read other CF cards).

Linux machine sees the disk, sees the file/folder on it, but as soon as I try to open a folder or format the disk I get an i/o error

Have you tried dd?

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda

This will just write a bunch of zeros to the card.

I just did

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 (careful writing hda there, someone may not understand and format their hard drive lol)

it looked like it wasn't doing anything so I did CTRL+C, then I saw that it had written 896MB blah blah for 2 minutes, at 16.xxMB/S.... so, now I am going to try again and let it run until it finishes.

I did dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc and got an i/o error, but when I did sdc1 it seems to go - not sure if its just syntax at that point or what.

Make sure you unmount the device before writing the zeros.

Yup, it takes some time to do dd.

Feel free to hit me up on gtalk if you have on the spot questions, I will PM you my contact.

Glad to hear they resolved it!
