I'm looking to upgrade to FF and will need a replacement eventually for my Canon 10-22. I have very little MF experience so I prefer AF. Requirements: FF, <$1500, minimum FL needs to be 17 mm or less. Filter mount is not much of a consideration. Usage: indoors >> outdoors so a fast zoom lens is definitely preferred. Any help is appreciated. I've looked through the previous threads for my due diligence.

Considerations:
Canon 16-35 II. Pro: fast, good range. Con: cost, soft in corners wide open for the price.
Canon 17-40. Pro: relatively cheap. Con: soft in corners wide open.
Tokina 11-16 used at 16 only. Pro: relatively cheap. Con: acts as a prime only.
Tokina 16-28. Pro: decent prince, optically good. Con: heavy.
Sigma 12-24mm. Pro: very wide, decent price. Con: rather slow.
Zeiss 18: Pro: ?. Con: MF, rather expensive.

Gear list: Canon 5D3, 24-105L, 100L macro, 70-200L 2.8 IS II, 580EXII; Gitzo GT1541T, Gitzo GM3551, Markins Q3T.

I'm not familiar with the others but I'm eyeing the 16-35 2.8 myself. I've seen great images from that lens.

I have the original 16-35 f/2.8L and it's great. I'm not selling mine, but you should be able to find one at a very fair price now that the new one's on the market.

If you don't need to shoot wide open at f/2.8, then get the 17-40L, it is a very good lens. I got mine about a month ago, love it on my 5D MK II
