Transcend or Sandisk

That being said, I need to find a good SDHC card for the secondary slot. I am thinking a 16GB 30MB/s one, as I will just likely be using it for JPG output.

I don't know if the 5D III will support raw/raw output and if it does how much of an impact it will have on burst performance.

Oh yea, the age-old memory card debate. It's been ensuring for years! (And there will probably never be any real answers.)

I no longer buy Transcend products due to two bad experiences trying to get warranty coverage. Support claimed that I abused the cards when I most certainly did not. Pity, since I've been buying Transcend cards for years.

These days, I buy Sandisk and Lexar. There's been some decent deals on Lexar two packs of CF cards from Adorama and B&H recently.

I've bought both Transcend and Sandisk. I use a 7D and both work good for me. I never had any issues. It just depends on what kind of deal you get can get Sandisks at. Most times it's been the Transcend cards that are cheaper. You can find 1-off deals on 16GB 60MB CF for $39.99. Good luck!

I've switched to Transcend due to the slower Sandisks not working in the 7D. I wasn't willing to pay what Sandisk wanted since I could get Transcends for cheaper. I've been using them for about a year now and haven't had any problems. I have 2 16GB compactflash 600x and am about to get a 3rd.

I have 5 Scandisk Extreme 32gb 30mbps Cards and have not had a single problem with any of them. I shoot a lot of video and they work great!

You have to make sure you get a fast card like the one mentioned above.

If you write to both cards at once w/ the 5D III, the write speed is only as fast as the slowest card, this being the SD card. If you write to the CF card only and use the SD for emergency overflow it's much faster. Also, shoot RAW or JPEG, not both. This will again slow down your speed.

That's why the 1DX has 2xCf card slots...blazing speed.

SD slots are perfectly fine if they supported UHS-1, it could be same speed as CF. As always they went half ass and didn't support USB 3 or UHS-1.
