I thought about writing Santa a letter this year...

Dear Santa,

I was thinking that since I pay the credit card bill how about a Canon 50mm 1.4? If not I'll pick one up as a new year present. Merry Christmas.

:)

I'd want my credit card bills to disappear!

28/2.8 is realistic IMO

35mm f1.4L
85mm f1.2L

to go with my other L primes. If I got those, I'd be extremely pleased.

The hints to my wife don't seem to be working though :)

I'd really like a 2nd body, so I could do more different events without worrying about the shutter deciding to give on my 300D. A 20D would be fine. However, I have enough adequate backup equipment (decent P/S and a couple of old MF film bodies) and don't do enough critical work that a 20D right now is not a realistic goal.

I could probably use a little better glass, but don't know what I would truly work towards at this point, since my modest collection does what I need it to right now.

It probably wouldn't hurt to have a 580EX, but I don't do a tremendous amount of flash photography.

So, I guess I'm set for now, equipment wise. However, in the spirit of an earlier poster who wished he/she could get better at post-processing, I wish I could get a little better at proper exposure and white balance up front, so that post-processing might only involve any necessary cropping and some USM before saving it out.

OK, yeah, that reminded me what I could truly use. A good external monitor and a way to calibrate it. There. After rambling for a bit, that's what I want for Christmas. And an external Firewire or USB 2.0 DVD writer. Yeah, that's it.

Guess I'd have to put the 24-105 on there. It's the only lens I really want at the moment. Other than that a pocket camera like the SD30 is on there, and some other useful bits and pieces like a creative zen vision.

With that many 5D's, you'll seldom have to change lenses. :)

As for the wish list - realistically, I don't see anything photography-related on the horizon.
Unrealistically, I could put the following to good use:

85/1.2L
180L macro
200/1.8L
300/2.8L or maybe that Sigma 120-300 thing.
A second body (for the camera, though I could stand to replace the well-worn other body as well).
A rock-solid tripod head.

And I'd like to give that 14/2.8L a try to see what it can do.
Maybe try another copy of the Sigma 20/1.8 - or two.
And, perhaps take a few shots with one of those 50/1.0L lenses that show up from time to time.

On the extremely unrealistic level, a 1200/5.6L might be a nice stocking stuffer. And a 1Ds II.

^^There's a big diff in price between the 120-300 2.8 and the 300 2.8 though. :)

I guess he doesn't want the lens to feel camera body neglected.....

True gratefulness for all that I have, which is far more than I deserve, and even further from what I can effectively use...

...and the hope that propane is not as high as has been predicted after spending the discretionary fund on a 50/1.4 and an 85/1.8 last week, else February might be a little chilly.
