The only thing not on it that prevents me from buying is a lower price tag

Maybe the worlds first high quality EVF with a bag full of capabilities that the current crop of DSLRs just don't have. Maybe the worlds first super fast contrast based AF, rendering the need for phase detect AF useless thus simplifying the camera making it less expensive. Or maybe a new sensor technology that is a quantum jump in performance, not a 1/2 stop or so based on better software algorithms. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

The MkIII is a nice body but hardly one that would give you that WOW effect that the original 5D had. It's more like the MkIII fixed the shortcomings of the MkII. I'll still probably get one but there is nothing that give you that "I gotta have one" feeling. This reminds me of Apple. Everyone keeps coming up with magical flying car equivalent items in their minds, as to what the next model should be. Then, when the next device comes out with double the horsepower, 4x the screen quality, major updates to all of the existing features, etc... everyone is disappointed and calls it a "dud" of an update.

My comment has more to do with Canon having lost it's edge. Canon wowed the market with a inexpensive SLR, the Rebel, CMOS sensors with market leading high ISO capabilities, and the first FF SLR, the 5D, and the first camera with HD video. They seem to have gone to sleep after that. Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Many say that the DSLR is about as mature technology as it gets. Barring the next breakthrough (EVIL or something else), the current state of imaging tech, just can't produce much WOW factors... it's about refining the product now.

Whether it's cameras or internal combustion engines, progress never stops, but the major breakthroughs become much less frequent. Gear List | Feedback | facebook

Good comparison, but I would note that even though the inner workings of an internal combustion engine haven't changed much, the external systems have which has resulted in amazing changes in performance, reliability, and a stability. I think that even if DSLR sensor technology doesn't progress in a linear fashion, the external systems that connect our cameras to us and the world will bring amazing changes in the future. 5D MKIII | 24-105mm f/4 L| 50mm f/1.8 | 600EX-RT [FONT=Tahoma][COLOR=blue][FONT="]|

That would mean we would never have out of focus shots when recomposing an image taken at large apertures because recomposing would be a thing of the past. Composing and recomposing wastes time. The most important piece of gear you own, resides in your head and its called your brain.

One could easily argue that is what Canon did, with improved AF, jpg noise reduction, 6fps, in camera HDR, etc. Gear List | Feedback | facebook
