I see G1X already can be purchased in the UK here:

http://panamoz.com …JG6ttLw4a4CFQ1lfAod4jQiXg (external link) for £494.

That is a £205 price drop in under a month since release.

This is now a very realistic price for this camera ...

Far too much interest in techniques, not nearly enough photographs taken!!

I'd be really, really careful at that price - are you sure it is a reputable supplier?

I don't know the supplier personally, but here are the addresses;

Our United Kingdom address:
Panamoz Electronics
Unit 36, 88-90 Hatton Garden, London, EC1N 8PG
United Kingdom

Our Hong Kong address:
Panamoz Electronics
607, Yen Sheng Centre, 64 Hoi Yuen Road, Kwun Tong
Hong Kong
Company Number: 51395305

Also phone number: United Kingdom: 01273257119

With that info and that discount, I would be tempted but I bought mine a couple of weeks ago with £110 discount.

Billhercus and myself purchased from procamerashop.co.uk with around £110 discount, this was for a grey import as the suppliers provides the guarantee.
A price range of between £500 to £600 pounds is very reasonable, thought £699 from Jessops, Wex etc was taking advantage of potential compulsive purchasers.

Canon 5D mk3, 50mm 1.4, 17-40L, 70-200L, 100-400L, Canon 100L macro, Canon 2 x G1X, Speedliite 430 EX all supported by Gitzo and Benro.

They are selling around that price in several shops in Australia.....where that website seems to be based.

Their UK address is London but the telephone number is for the East Sussex area. Maybe they use a call centre for voice communication?

i have seen lots of these before. Your guarantee will normally be in Hong Kong and so you will have to send it back to the UK company who will then have to send it to Hong Kong to get it sorted. worth thinking about!

These are all good points to ponder. Truly, if it looks too good, it probably is too good is a good rule to buy by.

I've had the G1,3,6,10,11 and now G1x over more than a decade (I think). Never a problem.

If I didn't have one - just might be tempted. 200 quid off is worth a small risk. OR IS IT?

The Australian shops I mentioned would be the equivalent of somewhere like Jessops in the UK.

Why would an established high street chain sell grey imports?

A good point. I was just thinking about 'Rip Off' Britain!

Believe me.. the price of most things in Britain is a lot less than we usually have to pay here.

Me too. I dont think we are going to see huge high street discounts too soon unless canon start discounting it! the deals to be had will involve a non uk warranty. And if you look at the problems threads there are a minority few canon owners with signifcant problems like dust, hot pixels issues with the lense not retracting etc. however my g10 has worked like a dream!

What is a trustworthy website to buy it in the UK then, still having a full UK warranty?

It seems the G1 X is out of stock on every major retailer website (Jessops, John Lewis, etc), and has been so for ages.

And anyway they still have it priced at the full £699.

Amazon still is not selling it directly themselves, although they do have a page for it on their market through other sellers, but it's still a mighty £650.

There are however online shops like SLR Hut which have a big discount at £566, but I'm not sure if it's a good place to shop if you want an easy warranty return in case of problems: http://slrhut.co.uk/product/ID872C4/ (external link) ?

Digital Rev now selling at £536 probably with a sellers warranty. Selling like hot cakes at the moment, can see the prices stabilising between £500 to £590 dependant on type of warranty.
